PAX Unplugged Primer

Everything you need to know about Riftbound at PAX Unplugged 2025

Hey Riftbounders!

We hope that you all have been having a blast playing Origins the past few weeks! We’re certainly happy to see it in players hands, and we’re excited to see what kinds of cool builds you all create.
A few months ago, we announced our attendance at PAXU, with a very brief main stage panel description being posted to the website. Today I’m here to cut through some of the mystery and talk about what Riftbound will be doing at PAX Unplugged.

We’ll have games, a store, wandering devs, and more! There’s lots to cover, so let's dive in!

The Demo Booth #GH-82A

If you’re a new Riftbound player or just curious about what’s going on, swing by our demo booth and take part in Learn to Play sessions. We’re excited to get you in the game and show you the basics so you can conquer the Rift.

For you experienced players out there, I know what you’re thinking. “Diana, I’ve already learned to play Riftbound, I don’t need to learn again! The game is out, just let me PLAY!”

And trust me, I hear you. That’s why experienced players will have the opportunity to register for a sealed event, right on site! We’ll be hosting Sealed Tournaments several times a day, each seating 16 players. These tournaments will take place three times on Friday and Saturday, then twice on Sunday.
Wait a second, you in the back, you’ve got your hand up? “Diana, I love Riftbound and I know how to play, but I’ve never played sealed! What do I need to do?”

Don’t worry, I got you. In a sealed tournament, you’ll be given 6 booster packs. You’ll build a deck of 25 cards and a corresponding Rune deck. Now, here’s where it gets really cool; unlike in standard, your deck doesn’t need to have a Champion Legend or a Chosen Champion (they do not have to match if you do have them), and your deck can be made up of cards from up to three different domains. Once you have your deck built from scratch, you’ll start battling against your peers to prove your deckbuilding chops are the best in the bunch!

We’ll use best-of-one swiss pairings to determine who has the best win record. This means every round you’ll face off against an opponent with the same number of wins as you.

At the end of the tournament, players will be given prizing according to how well they played! The better you do, the more exciting the prizes!

To register for events, make yourself a carde.io account here, and link it to your Riot ID. Once you have your PAX Unplugged badge, and your carde.io account, you can register for Riftbound Events at the show here.

The Exhibition Booth #2801

The Exhibition Booth is for everything beyond playing the game! This booth will sell limited quantities of Origins Champion Decks including Jinx, Lee Sin, and Viktor each day, AND will showcase some of the coolest cards from Riftbound! You’ll be able to get an up close look at our Overnumbered and Alt Art cards from Origins, as well as some of the newly revealed cards from Spiritforged!

Eagle-eyed attendees might even notice a transformation at the booth from Friday to Saturday. Shhh, you didn’t hear it from me.
And finally…

From Nexus to Decklist - Designing Riftbound: Origins, Spiritforged, and Beyond

On Friday, November 21st at 2:00PM ET, Riftbound will be taking the Main Stage at PAX Unplugged! Jimmy Wong (Wish Dragon, Mulan, Game Knights) will chat with Riftbound Game Director Dave Guskin about the process of making Riftbound happen. From its inception to its debut in Macao, to revising the design based on player feedback, to the first event in China and official English Launch in LA, they’ll cover it all.

Jimmy and Dave will also talk about what fans will see in Riftbound’s second set, Spiritforged, and show off some of the exciting new cards that players can build with when the set launches (December for Chinese audiences, February for the rest of the world).
Finally, Dave will talk us through the future of Riftbound, covering the next year of set releases, Organized Play, and where he wants to take Riftbound in the future!

Wanna be the first to hear all this great stuff? Join us at the panel, or watch the live stream!

See you there!

We’ll have Devs on site all weekend to hang out and hear about your best top decking experiences, your worst mulligans, and your LGS personalities. We can’t wait to see you in Philly and play some Riftbound with you now that Origins is out! So sleeve your decks, grab your playmats and let’s jump into the Rift!
