Letter from the Editor, February 2026
Hello, Riftbounders!
Welcome to Riftbound’s first State of the Game update! My name is Trick Jarrett, and I am Riftbound’s Editor-in-Chief. I joined the team shortly after Origins’ launch after working for more than a decade on Magic. My role here is to oversee all of the content around Riftbound, from set previews to things like this State of the Game and the upcoming Dev Drop video for Set 3: Unleashed (coming soon)! The EIC role is like a communications director, which means my job is to make sure Riftbound is continuing to communicate and connect with you all.
The State of the game will be a twice-yearly chance for the team to stop and share our thoughts about where we are, how things have been going, and where the game is headed.
Riftbound and I are dedicated to being as transparent and open about this game’s growth and development as we can, and the State of the Game moments are purposeful times for us to answer questions and dive into larger topics about the game and its future.
So what is in today’s State of the Game?
First we have the ‘State of the Game’ article where Dave and Chengran share their thoughts on how Riftbound’s launch is going, a few teases about Riftbound’s future, and answer questions that we collected from social media and from the community discussions we’ve observed.
Next, we have the 2026 Roadmap! We announced 2026’s sets at PAX Unplugged last year, and today we’re bringing players a more holistic look at 2026 including events such as the full Regional Qualifier lineup, insights into store event windows, and some of the conventions Riftbound will have a booth at.
Finally, Diana Dimicco is here with an overview for Riftbound Creators in 2026 and how we’re going to be working with folks who make awesome content about this game.
Riftbound has an exciting year ahead and I can’t wait for it.
