Riftbound kicked off the North American competitive scene for Riftbound with Regional Qualifiers for Houston this past weekend, December 5-7. With 1,129 players competing, it was a fantastic event with all 16 legal champion legends represented on Day 1 of the event. Congratulations to Dhawally, for being the Riftbound Qualifier Champion and winning Best Of for Annie!

This meta is an exciting look at what players can expect from future Riftbound events until Spiritforged’s arrival, as players brought decks from Garen up to, no surprise, Kai’sa. The competitive landscape became clearer as the event’s meta shifted from Day 1 to Day 2, with ten different champions finishing in the top 64 of the tournament, with a clear leader pack of Kai’sa, Master Yi, and Annie; but we would be remiss to not call out that Miss Fortune had an outsized performance on Day 1 to double its percentage of the field for the Top 64.

Kai’sa was 33% of the field on Day 1 and increased to 42% for Day 2, which is somewhat expected given its dominant presence among players. Similarly, you can see Master Yi went from 15% to a more modest 17% increase. The largest increase in the field goes to Miss Fortune which increased its presence to 11% of Day 2. Among those champions who didn’t reach Day 2, the biggest surprises have to be both Sett and Ahri finding themselves eliminated along with the other four absent champions.

The Riftbound team are paying attention to the metagame and will take action if necessary, additionally we are discussing tournament changes for future Qualifiers. This was a fantastic weekend capped off by an exciting Sunday, and while there are things we want to improve, we consider this a fantastic success for our first North American RQ and that’s all thanks to you.
